Does Your Child Struggle with Bedwetting?

Bedwetting can be a source of tremendous embarrassment for a child, making nights difficult and sleepover parties impossible. Thankfully, homeopathy can really help - safely and gently.

Here are a few remedies to consider for family members who may struggle with this problem:

Arsenicum album: The typical Arsenicum child is anxious, restless and fastidious. "They will get out of bed to put a chair straight." They are frequently chilly as well. A child needing the homeopathic remedy Arsenicum will often wet the bed from 1-2:00AM.

Causticum: This homeopathic remedy can be useful in children who wet the bed particularly when they first fall asleep. Often the urine passes so easily that the patient is unaware of it. These children can also leak urine on coughing.

Kreosotum: A child needing this homeopathic remedy often experiences a sudden urge to urinate and can't go quick enough. They are known to have a sudden urging during the first, deep stage of sleep - wetting the bed. There is frequent urging at night. He or she wakes with urging but cannot retain the urine or dreams they are urinating and wet the bed.

Lycopodium: The child needing this homeopathic remedy has involuntary urination during sleep during which he or she may pass enormous quantities of clear urine. The typical Lycopodium patient craves sweets, likes hot drinks and has aggravations from 4-8PM for many complaints. They are often a bit cross and in an ugly mood on waking.

Pulsatilla: The child requiring this remedy often suffers with urine discharges that are involuntary. The urine can dribble while sitting or walking and at night in bed. The typical child needing the homeopathic remedy Pulsatilla is often "moody and fickle" and can be a bit weepy. They tend to have little thirst, and love being in company.

Sepia: The child needing Sepia often must keep her mind on her bladder or she will lose urine. The bed is wet almost as soon as the child goes to sleep (compare with Causticum). The child needing this homeopathic remedy is often indifferent, does not like sympathy and wants to get away alone. They may also crave the heat of the sun.

The key to choosing the correct/helpful remedy is ALWAYS the same. Match the characteristic symptoms of the patient to the characteristic symptoms produced by our many remedies - choosing the remedy with the most similar characteristics - and you will have a happy outcome every time. As with any medical condition, consult with your physician if you have any concerns about the severity of your illness as it may first require medical diagnosis and/or intervention and monitoring.
